Chesaning schools recall all but one teacher
Plus new teachers hired to replace the many retiring
CHESANING – The Chesaning Union Schools Board of Education met for their annual organizational meeting on Monday, July 26. During the meeting, the board was pleased to hire many promising new teachers, while accepting regrets from a few teachers leaving the district. LEAVING Three teachers are leaving the district. Middle School art teacher Jodie Mohrhardt resigned since she is moving to Colorado. Chesaning Superintendent Don Barnes commented, “She did an outstanding job. We wish her well.” High School Assistant Principal Barry Markwart is leaving the district to become a principal in a Brown City School District. High School English and Spanish teacher Rebecca Bodnar has decided to retire. RECALLED During the meeting, teacher Kyle Robinson was brought back from layoff. “That makes all but one [teacher] recalled,” Barnes announced. NEW HIRES Between the retirements and reassignments the Chesaning schools had several openings to fill with qualified teachers. According to Finance Director Scott Sawyer, they received somewhere between 500 and 1,000 resumes for jobs in Chesaning. “We interviewed candidates with different qualifications for three days and then sorted them out,” Sawyer said. Barnes commented, “It was unbelievable.” The new teachers are: Christina Johnstone - 4th grade teacher David Young, Jr. - elementary school art Shauna Hemgesberg - 3rd grade teacher Heather Moeggenborg - 4th grade teacher Jason Croucher - 6th grade teacher Brooke Southgate- Gruehn – high school history & english Nathaniel Smith – high school economics & math Elisabeth Slocum – high school history & english After announcing the new teachers, Barnes said, “We’re nearly there. It’s nice to have these new teachers on board. It’s going to be a great year!” He added that there are still a few openings they have yet to fill. |
