SPORTS NOTES STC SPORTS PHYSICALS – Physicals for St. Charles athletes will be on Wednesday, July 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Charles Family Physicians. MEN’S SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL TOURNEY – Thomas Township Parks and Recreation is taking registrations for the 2010 Roberts Challenge men’s slow pitch softball tournament to be held Aug. 20-22. This is a 16-team round-robin tournament. The entry fee is $180 (includes softballs). Teams can register at the Thomas Township offices at 249 N. Miller Road, Saginaw, MI 48609 by Aug. 13. Check out the website at www.thomastwp.org for the registration form.Run/Walk for Health Marks 32nd Anniversary – On Saturday, June 26, St. Mary’s of Michigan will hold the 32nd Annual Run/Walk for Health. All events start and finish at St. Mary’s of Michigan Riverfront (MCVI Building) located at 1015 S. Washington Avenue in Saginaw. The certified course will take participants along the picturesque Saginaw Riverwalk. There will be a 10K Run at 8 a.m., a 5K Run at 8:05 a.m., and a 5K Walk at 8:07 a.m. A variety of activities all designed to help people live a health lifestyle will also be available, including, free blood pressure checks, blood typing, nutrition information and a Kid’s Zone. Enjoy live entertainment and refreshments at the finish line. All participants will receive a complementary tshirt. Prices are $18 before June 20 and then $20 between June 20 and June 25. SOCCER PHOTOS READY FOR PICK-UP – Chesaning Parks and Recreation spring soccer photos are back and can be picked up at Animal Health Care in Chesaning, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those who have not picked up their baseball pictures can picked them up at Animal Health Care as well. BIG A MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND GOLF CLASSIC – Friends and family are sponsoring the 2nd Annual “BIG A” Memorial Scholarship Fund Golf Classic on Saturday, June 26 at Highland Hills Golf Course, 1050 E. Alward Road, DeWitt. The classic is in memory of Jason E. Anderson, formerly of Laingsburg, Alpena and Owosso, who died at age 32 of hypertensive cardiovascular disease. The scholarship fund was established to allow his legacy of coaching/helping youth continue. The event starts at 8:30 a.m. registration and free driving range, followed by a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $45, which includes 18 holes, cart, hot dogs and chips and bottled water on the course, six tickets to each golfer to be used for beer, pop or iced tea, and a dinner with prizes and raffle drawing at Twilligers, 116 E. Grand River Road, Laingsburg, after the outing. Registrations are requested by June 17. GOLF SCRAMBLE ADDED TO BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL LINE-UP – The Montrose Blueberry Festival Committee and the Montrose Firefighters, Inc. are working together to present a golf scramble on Saturday, Aug. 7 at Briar Ridge Golf Course in Montrose. Registration will be at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Dinner and prizes will be immediately following, featuring a catered New York strip steak dinner. There will also be door prizes and a 50/50 drawing, coney dogs and chips at the turn, separate long drive and closest to the pin contests for men and women, Vegas hole, and putting contests with proceeds to benefit the Montrose Open Cupboard Food Pantry. The registration fee is $260 (four-person, pre-registered), with $100 due by July 31.. Registration the day of the event will be $70 per person, $280 per team. Sponsors are also being sought for the event, including rafffle/door prize gift sponsors, cart sponsors, hole sponsors, coney dog sponsors, steak dinner sponsors and corporate sponsors. CANOE/KAYAK RACE PLANNED – There will be a Canoe/Kayak Race and Pleasure Paddle on Saturday, July 10. Race classes will start at the Ditch Road bridge (Parshallburg Park) and end at the M-57 bridge in Chesaning. Canoes and kayaks must be delivered to Parshallburg Park in advance; a watchman will guard them. Parking is available in Chesaning, and a shuttle bus will transport participants to Parshallburg for the race start. Sponsors of the Tom Richardson Memorial Race also include Dr. Doug Forsyth, local merchants and Chesaning Parks & Recreation. SHOWBOAT RIVER RUN JULY 11 – The 2010 Chesaning Showboat River Run will be Sunday, July 11 at 8 a.m. The 5K (3.1 miles) run/walk will be routed through the Chesaning residential area with the Start and Finish lines at Showboat Park. Awards will include medals given to the first male and female finishers, walk and run, in the following age groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-49, 50- 59, and 60 and over. Commemorative Showboat medals will be given to the first 200 finishers. A Fun Run for children will be immediately following the 5K races with medals for all finishers. Entries received before July 6, are: 5K with shirt $16, without shirt $11; Fun Run with shirt $10, without shirt $5. Race day registration, which begins at 7 a.m., will be: 5K with shirt $18, without shirt $13; Fun Run with shirt $12, without shirt $7.
